APPLY FOR ENERGY ASSISTANCE

We help individuals and families in Southwest Montana stay safe and warm in their homes through our energy assistance programs. Funded through state and federal sources, our services support eligible households across Gallatin, Park, and Meagher Counties with help covering heating costs, preventing utility shut-offs, and improving energy efficiency. We provide one-time heating bill assistance, emergency support, weatherization services, and furnace repair or replacement

Emergency Energy

For households facing year-round energy emergencies, HRDC administers Energy Share of Montana (ESOM), a program that provides grants to help cover heating bills, purchase fuel, or repair essential equipment like furnaces and water heaters. Energy Share assists those who are without—or at immediate risk of losing—heat or power. Common emergencies include shut-off notices, lack of fuel, or broken heating systems.

Heating Bill Assistance

HRDC administers Montana’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps income-eligible households cover the cost of winter heating. Available from October through April, LIHEAP provides financial assistance to both homeowners and renters to reduce the burden of monthly energy bills. In some cases, qualified households may also receive support for heat-related emergencies like furnace repairs.

Weatherization

Our Weatherization Assistance Program helps households improve energy efficiency, lower heating costs, and create a healthier, safer home. Services begin with a comprehensive energy audit and may include air sealing, insulation, weather-stripping, appliance testing and tune-ups, and minor repairs to improve comfort and safety. Both renters and homeowners may qualify, and eligibility is often linked to participation in LIHEAP.
